electrotype 上市 Deposited
A copy of a coin or token or medal made by electrodeposition of copper or silver onto molds made from the original. The 2 shells so produced are usually filled with lead or fusible alloy and cemented together. More rarely, the shells are built up by continued deposition of copper or silver instead (" solid electrotypes "). The process was common in the 1850-1870 period when coin photographs were unavailable, and had its uses in educating collectors as to the approximate appearance of original rarities. It acquired evil repute in later decades when some unscrupulous dealers sold such copies as genuine coins. Electrotyping is used today to create galvanos.
