1. British monetary unit = 12 pence = 1/20 pound sterling; 92.9 (later 87.27) grs. troy of silver 925 Fine. 2. Massachusetts Bay Colony monetary unit = 72 grs. troy of silver at same fineness. 3. Maryland monetary unit = 55.7 grs. troy of silver at probably same fineness. Other colonies and states defined the unit differently but made no silver coins exemplifying their standards.
