Definição
  • 1. Droplet of brass, bonded to a copper blank, representing gold at the crown on the St. Patrick (Mark Newby) coins and some other copper issues of the time of Charles I. 2. Impression of a die in fusible alloy, thin brass, or some other soft metal requiring little force; 18th- and 19th-century splashers often show ragged edges and traces of old newspapers adhering to blank backs, suggesting that the liquid metal was poured onto the papers, the latter used both to position it atop the die (while a rolling pin produced the impression) and to ease prying it off afterward. The French term is cliche.
