  • Albata.  Alloy of nickel, copper and zinc; an early name for nickel-silver. The silver-gray alloy was more popularly called German-silver at the beginning of the 20th century, but nickel-silver after World War I. It is noted for its hard wearing qualities. The word is Latin for whitened.  See nickel-silver
