Aluminum Bronze Pubblico Deposited
- Aluminum Bronze. A bronze alloy with five to ten percent aluminum. The presence of aluminum gives the alloy a pale gold color, despite the high percentage of copper. A typical commercial aluminum bronze formula is 86 copper, 10.5 aluminum and 3.5 iron which is a high strength, corrosion resistant alloy. Any aluminum bronze alloy can be struck or cast. Brazil was the first country to strike coins for circulation in an aluminum bronze alloy, in 1922. More recently, some Scandinavian countries have struck coins in this composition which they call Nordic gold. Italian coins in this alloy are called bronzital.Because of its slightly gold hue aluminum bronze was formerly called aluminum gold (but this term should not be used because aluminum gold could become a space metal.)
