Archive Medal, Archive Copy Público Deposited
- Archive Medal, Archive Copy. A specimen preserved for archive or numismatic purposes. It is usually marked in some manner with a registration or identification number and preserved in a cabinet. Tiffany & Co. edgelettered the weight of the medal in silver and gold on their bronze archive medal. Medallic Art Company edgelettered their catalog or die number on the edge (in bronze or least precious metal). Few makers keep archive specimens in precious metal (exception: Franklin Mint). The Birmingham Mint did not even keep metal specimens, they made cardboard proofs of their coin and medal productions for their archives.
