Bearded Öffentlichkeit Deposited

Definition
  • Bearded.  Facial hair on male portraits, it is as important to identify the individual as any other facial characteristic.  When a coin or medal bears a portrait with a beard

it should be noted in describing the piece. If the subject normally bears a beard, any portrait without this is termed unbearded (often of youthful monarchs before maturity, or Abraham Lincoln before 1861). It is at the cataloger’s discretion if he wishes to identify the type of beard on a coin or medal.
