  • Chinoiserie.  A Chinese motif or decoration appearing on a numismatic or medallic item. Generally the reference to being chinoiserie (the word is French and is usually italicized) is for items that are not Chinese, but are executed in Chinese style, bear Chinese characteristics or have a Chinese influence in the design.
