Component Öffentlichkeit Deposited
- Component. A supplemental part of a medal, a separate accessory of a medallic item as a hanger, bar, ribbon, clasp, ring or such, as appurtenance. A component is made as a separate operation and later assembled to form the completed medallic item. Smaller parts are called findings (particularly from the jewelry field) and include catches, stems, jump rings, ribbon clasps, and such. All findings are machine made, if such components are made by hand they are called fittings. decorations, ribbon badges – virtually all medals intended to be worn – are so made with separate components and assembled. A component is not (as is an integral part) struck at the same time as the medal, and is not in the same die. See also suspension.
