- Cone Blank, Dome Blank. A die block made with a cone or dome on the face before the design is pressed into the face by hubbing. Not only does the shape provide more mass in the center of the surface face, but also provides that the design is impressed in sequence of center outwards rather than all at once. The center of the cone or dome is impressed first by the hubbing action as it comes in contact first with the new die block. The area increases in concentric circles as the design is impressed in the new die. See dies and diemaking, hubbing.
