- Contact Mark. A point of wear on a high point of a coin or medal where the object comes in contact with any surface it rests upon. high points or support points are, obviously, where such contact marks occur, but are not designated contact marks unless some evidence of wear is visible. A repeated shifting of a coin or medal in a cabinet tray would cause such contact marks. See cabinet friction, condition.
