• Cornerstone Medal.  A medallic item placed with other objects in a cornerstone or other place in the foundation when erecting a new building. The custom dates to at least the 15th century and is mentioned in Shakespeare, Coriolanus V,IV:  See you youn coin a' the' Capitol, yound corner stone. See foundation medal
