Cotter Pin Mount Öffentlichkeit Deposited

Definition
  • Cotter Pin Mount.  Two metal loops, one above the other, on the back of a medallic item; ideally these are passed through two openings in a garment or headgear and a separate cotter pin is hooked through each to hold the item in place. This was an early method of mounting a medallic item to cloth and is found on badges and minor decorations as early as 17th century. Since he cotter pin is loose the original does not always survive along with the item itself, although some have. This method is a less expensive way of mounting to a garment but for the most part was replaced by having an integral stem and clasp or other fastening device.
