• Describing.  Recording all pertinent details of a coin or medal, particularly its design. There are somewhat formal rules for describing numismatic and medallic items. Since there are many heraldic items on coins and medals, as coats of arms, describing must include the heraldry rules of describing – called blazoning – as well.  See cataloging.
