Design Area 上市 Deposited
- Design Area. That portion of a coin or medal that is available for the designer to create an image and lettering; the area inside the rim. Also called image area. Because this area is so small, a silver dollar size coin or medal has an area of 1.48 square inches, the burden on the designer is to create his masterpiece on a small canvas. The boundary of the design area is often understood but seldom stated. Artists will often include the rim in their model, but the mint or medallic firm will create a rim or border that is suitable for their purpose. The artist is creating what is inside that rim – the design area – and should not worry about the actual rim. (Or the rim, border and design area should be discussed with the artist before he starts his commission.)
