  • Diminishing Glass.  An optical lens (the opposite of magnifying glass) by which an artist or others may look at an oversize model or pattern to view it in reduced scale. It is also called a reducing lens, It gives an artificial sense of distance from the work, hence in smaller scale.  Compare loupe.
