  • Dished.  A strongly concaved model, pattern, mold or die – of a piece made from any of these – with a concaved background and the center gently sloping upward toward the edges; basin shaped. When two such models or patterns are used for obverse and reverse of the same piece the cross-section would look like this:

    An example of such a medal is the Theodore Andrews McGraw Medal of 1950 for the Detroit Surgical Association.  See basin, concave.
