Double Struck Image Pubblico Deposited
- Double Struck Image. Bearing a double impression due to shifting of a coin between blows during double striking; or a medal which has not been positioned properly for a subsequent blow during multiple striking. The images of final design will be superimposed on the earlier design and will obliterate it for the most part. Lettering and detail farthest from the center will exhibit the most distortion as the degree will be greater toward the edge, lesser toward the center. The effect is called by several terms: double image, doubling, or simply double struck. See mis-struck.
