Definition

• Embedment.  (1) A piece of metal or other material impressed in the surface of a struck piece either by intent – as for a relic medal – or during the striking process as when a foreign object lodges on the planchet (as a piece of scrap) and is impressed during striking. The later should be rejected during inspection.  See impressed design, impressed error.
