Encore Öffentlichkeit Deposited
- Encore. A medal associated with a series but with a feature different from all others in the series, and appearing after the series is completed. The medal usually symbolizes the entire series and is issued as if collectors of the series are asking for a repeat performance, or another item to add to the series. It is comparable to a keynote or keystone medal, one issued before the series commences or shortly thereafter. Such keynote, keystone or encore medals may be larger or smaller or not even share the same specifications as medals in the series. It must, however, bear the same theme as the series. In France such first-issued medal is called pre-series. There is no French term for an encore medal. An example in America is the Great American Triumphs Series created by sculptor Joseph Di Lorenzo, struck by Metal Arts Company, and issued by Longines Wittnauer. The encore medal was the 60th in the series with the title: Two Centuries of Liberty Peace Progress Medal. It was a larger size. In cataloging, the keystone or keynote medal is usually designated "A" while those in the series are numbered consecutively in the order of their issue. An encore medal is usually numbered with the series.
