Enhanced Pubblico Deposited

Definizione
  • Enhanced.  A form of retooling where lettering, signatures or monograms are strengthened either in the model, or, infrequently, retooled in the die. Often this occurs when the original lettering or monogram is so shallow in depth or low in relief that it is indistinct in the final piece. An example is the signature on the Actors Fund Medal, 1910.

When first issued the entire medal was in quite low relief, sculptor Chester Beach signed his last name on the obverse. A subsequent issue, the signature was enhanced by cutting

the name deeper, thus "Beach" appears in higher relief. (This created two distinct varieties, of collector interest.)
