Fine Silver Pubblico Deposited
- Fine Silver. Commercially pure silver, usually .999 fine; silver with no alloy. Silver is somewhat soft in this pure state but is satisfactory for art medals in contrast to coins which must be hard enough to circulate. (Silver coins to circulate must be alloyed, thus .925 sterling is so common). Fine silver is also used in the field as anodes for silver galvanos and for silverplating. See fineness.
