Flange Public Deposited

Definition
  • Flange.  In medallic work an extension around the perimeter of a model; also the same extension on a dieshell or hubshell – to aid attaching such pattern to a diecutting machine or pantograph. A one- to two-inch flange would be satisfactory to allow clamps to hold the pattern in place on the machine. Without such flange the clamps would be in the way of the tracer reproducing the design of the pattern.
