Foreground Público Deposited
- Foreground. That part of a numismatic or medallic design which is most prominent and nearest to the viewer – most always the device or scene which contains the high points of such design. The foreground is in contrast to the background, which recedes from the viewer and behind the device; the background is the field (it is also the highest part of the die). Lettering is considered as neither foreground nor background.
