Forming Die Public Deposited

Definition
  • Forming Die.  The first die to be used to begin shaping the metal planchet of a particularly difficult design – which requires several sets of dies and multiple striking, as for art medals. Its use is followed by striking dies that contain the full design. Such dies are only required for either extremely high relief, or medals needed in a great rush using several presses. Also called starting dies.
