  • Galvanoplastics.  Electrometalurgy; especially the branch known as electroforming. In the numismatic field galvanoplastics is utilized for making oversize patterns for die-engraving pantographs (dieshell), for making the molds for creating patterns (galvano mold) or the actual medallic item (galvano medal), and for making cast replicas of numismatic items (electrotype). The German inventor of this electrolytic process, Moritz Herman von Jacobi (1801-1874), originally called his process "galvanoplasty."
