Guideline Público Deposited
- Guideline. Matching lines on a set of obverse and reverse dies scribed or drawn on the sides of the dies to aid in orientating the dies during setup. See die alignment. Formerly, when most dies were hand engraved, guidelines in the form of arcs were scribed on the surface of a die to aid in engraving or punching lettering; these were usually polished off before the die was hardened but have been observed on two U.S. large cents (1797 Sheldon 138, Breen 20, and 1810 Sheldon 281, Breen 1).
