Impaired Público Deposited
- Impaired. Numismatic items damaged or deteriorated by rust, corrosion, mischief or mishandling; as scratched, pitted, holed, nicked and such. An impaired coin or medal is downgraded in condition. The term is often applied to proof surface coins, as they generally do not conform to traditional numismatic terms of condition applied to normal coins. An impaired proof coin cannot be repaired. Some degree of damage, however, can be repaired to medals provided it is not yet too severe. See chasing, repair and restoration. By custom it is looked with disfavor by collectors to accept a repaired coin. The term is also applied to dies; impaired dies would strike imperfect specimens. See rusted dies.Reference: NE42 {1982} Doty, p 173-174.
