Intaglio Die Pubblico Deposited

Definizione
  • Intaglio Die.  A handcut die, cut incised or intaglio (negative); opposite of cameo die. Punches may be used when cutting an intaglio die. Engravers find cutting the negative intaglio die far more difficult than the positive cameo die. A cameo die has all the relief in the positive in view of the engraver, it does not need to be proved to view the state of his work. This is in contrast to the intaglio die which needs to be proved at each stage of the engraver's work. Such impressions are usually formed in a lead splasher or hot tin impression. Cutting intaglio requires a strong discipline for the engraver.  See engraving, proving.
