Definition

• Interface Surfaces.  The common congruent surfaces of a multipart medal or matched clichés, as the halves that fit together to form a two-part medal. If the two common sides of a two-part medal are completely congruent – each half is a mirror image of the other – the two interface surfaces can be made from a single pattern. In other instances one interface surface has a cavity where raised relief exists on its matching surface. The interface surfaces of two matching clichés usually exhibit ghosting.  See cliché, multipart medal.
