Definition

• Legendless.  Without legend; anepigraphic. Legends are traditional for most coin and medal designs, only one class of medallic items are designed, typically, legendless. That class is art medals, where the design may be so self evident that the need for further edification on the object itself is redundant. Although, perhaps, even art medals should be “image and caption” to include the lettering.  See art medal.
