Matte Dip Publique Deposited
- Matte Dip. A liquid that produces a matte finish by chemical action on any metallic surface immersed in it. Commercial matte dip solutions are available; professional chasers and metal finishers use these or formulate their own, most often made of hydrochloric acid. The liquid lightly etches the surface of metal to which it is applied; it’s purpose is to create a dull, unburnished surface of dead reflectiveness. It is occasionally used on proof surface dies for a contrast of proof and matte on the same piece for contrast.
