Definizione

• Pax.  A highly embellished Catholic altar ornament kissed by the priest and parishioners during mass. Similar to plaques or plaquettes, pax were customarily cast or made by embossing, engraving or niello and had an easel or support on the back permitting it to stand upright on the altar.
