Phosphor-bronze Public Deposited
- Phosphor-bronze. A bronze alloy with very small amount of phosphor. A very hard alloy, infrequently used for striking medals. At one time the United States Mint utilized this alloy to cast patterns of coin and medal designs for the International Medallic Exhibit of 1910. The smallest amount of phosphors changes the physical properties of an alloy. It is nicknamed "foss-bronze" by metalworkers.References: O6 {1911} American Numismatic Society, pp 334-335, nos 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 16, 20, 22, 24.
