Piedfort Pubblico Deposited

Definizione
  • Piedfort.  Twice or more than normal thickness; originally trial pieces struck on thick planchets. Piedfort blanks have been used for proving dies because such thick planchets are less severe on the dies than on normal thickness planchets. Piedforts have also been struck for presentation pieces and for sale to collectors in two, three, or more thickness of

a normal coin. Often the edge on piedfort coins are given special design or lettering. The French term is piefort.  See gauge, thickness.
