Definition

• Piercing Guide.  A design element on a medallic item indicating where piercing for openwork is to be to be done. Usually this is a raised outline circle (annulet) as a locus where a hole is to be drilled, but can also be for any shape openwork created by a piercing tool.  See limiting guide.
