Plinth Public Deposited

Definition
  • Plinth.  The square or rectangular panel at the base of a plaque or plaquette; the area below the base line with square corners. A plinth is often used for lettering. A plinth is to a plaque as exergue is to a round medal. Occasionally the plinth is raised from the background or field; this implies support as a pedestal supports a statue.
