Political Medal Público Deposited
- Political Medal. A medallic item primarily issued for a political campaign, often containing one or more portraits of candidates, campaign slogans and symbols. Political medals were popular in America in the 19th century, but gave way, somewhat, with the increased use of the celluloid button about the turn of the 20th century. Political medals were prohibited from being struck by the U.S. Mint, particularly campaign medals. Because of this restriction all political medals have been struck by private medal makers.
