Definizione

• Proclamation Medal.  A coronation medal issued for a new ruler in Spanish countries. The custom of proclaiming a new regent carried over into the new world where Spanish American countries issued proclamation medals for new rulers even though they were presidents, not kings. Proclamation pieces were also issued, announcing evens and decrees of national interest. The first Spanish proclamation medal was issued for Phillip II's ascension to the throne in 1556. Latin American countries continued he practice to the 20th century. For the most part these medals were struck at national mints on coining equipment and resemble coins more so than medals.
