Production Run Öffentlichkeit Deposited
- Production Run. A press run; also called mint run. The striking of an issue of coins or medals after the dies have been cut, proofs made and approved, the dies locked in position and the press setup. The production run is usually to a prescribed quantity and is the responsibility of the pressman and/or the pressroom foreman whose duty after the press is running is to monitor the striking by frequently selecting a sample and inspecting it for lack of flaws (no dies is cracked or broken), impression (all pieces are fully and evenly struck up), and that the dies have not worked loose and rotated (see chattering, rotated die). The production run is both the length of time and the number of business strikes actually struck.
