Retooled, Retooling Öffentlichkeit Deposited

Definition
  • Retooled, Retooling.  A re-engraving of an existing die – or a hub –  to sharpen, deepen or change the lettering or device. While numerous dies have been retooled, the same effort on a hub has occurred far less frequently. An example, however, is the British Queen’s South Africa Medal, originally issued with the dates 1899-1900. The hub was retooled to change the date when the conflict continued beyond 1900. Evidence of the retooling can be seen on the later pieces. See die retooling.
