Scratch Engraving Publique Deposited

Définition
  • Scratch Engraving.  Light incised lines; not engraved by removing metal, but lines created by dragging a sharp pointed stylus across a surface; also called drag engraving and diamond-point engraving (the stylus is often a diamond). Scratch engraving creates a furrow with metal thrown up on the sides of the furrow giving the illusion of a deeper cut. It is an early form of niello and has been used since the 17th century, particularly by Dutch silversmiths.
