  • Scriber.  A sharp pointed steel tool used by engravers and inscribers to mark or score a metallic surface prior to engraving a design or lettering. Also called engraver's marker. The design from a drawing or cartoon in exact size is trnsferred to the steel die blank and outlined by a scriber. Or the die surface can be treated with dye blue and the design drawn freehand with the scriber.  See engraving.
