  • Service Medal.  (2) A medallic item of any size that is bestowed upon an employee or member of a group for length of service to that business or organization. Service medals are often inscribed with the individual's name and years of service, often issued in 5 or 10-year anniversary periods. When a service medal is presented to an individual upon

    his or her retirement it is also termed retirement medal.
