Definition
  • Shimming.  Raising the lower die by inserting thin pieces of metal, shims, or thicker pieces, shoes, between the bed of the press and the die. This is necessary only on knuckle-joint presses and is a function of setup performed by the pressman with the approval of the pressroom foreman.
