Spelter Öffentlichkeit Deposited

Definition
  • Spelter.  A zinc alloy, or zinc solder, in which the zinc content is more than half. A high zinc alloy combined with copper could be made to resemble bronze; or with nickel-tin to resemble white metal. Such alloys were lower cost and lighter weight than the metal being imitated, and, of course, they could be bronzed or plated to resemble other metals.

(Spelter as base metal would bleed dark gray.) A number of medals have been cast in spelter, which would probably be cataloged as white metal.  Several Lincoln medals were so made.
