Definition

• Stamp.  An infrequently used word for a die, punch or for striking. Because of its lack of precise meaning, however, it is often spurned for more exact terms in the coin and medal field. Use of dies in a press is called stamping. (This is in contrast to metalworking terms for other kind of forming with a press, called pressing.)
