Stipple-ground Pubblico Deposited

Definizione
  • Stipple-ground.  Surface texture of a random dot pattern covering the background usually offering contrast to a smooth surface device; also called pebble surface. Stipple-ground is a form of texture which does not require any artistic skill to apply it to a background surface; hence it is very seldom used by medal designers. It can be applied by anyone with a punch and random placing of the punch to form raised bosses; these appear as dots or pebbles. The Japanese made stipple-ground an art form in the design of tsubas.  See texture.
