• War Medal.  A medal issued during or for wartime service. This is a loosely used collector's term for a military medal, campaign medal or decoration awarded during or after wartime. It is somewhat of an umbrella term including a number of medals with more precise designations. Even topic collecting uses more precise terms for the several medals that fall with this designation, as military, naval, victory, and such.
