Collar Publique Deposited
- Collar. (1) A decoration in large circular form to be worn around the neck; also the name of certain orders, as the Collar of Knighthood. The collar is a chain of highly decorated and designed metal components from which a medallic badge is suspended, also highly decorated and designed. Collars are often made of precious metals, gold or silver gilt in distinctive shape and embellished with enamel. Collars are the highest insignia of an order and are often bestowed only to heads of state. The design of the collar often takes some element of the pendant badge and the designer works this into the design of the links that form the collar chain.Collars are not to be confused with neck ribbons or cravats that are also worn around the neck, but are fashioned of cloth while collars are always metal.
